A Love Story for the Ages at Robson Reserve at PebbleCreek

As we celebrate Valentine’s Day and the month of love, Robson Reserve at PebbleCreek is excited to feature one couple’s love story. Most love stories begin with a chance encounter, a spark that ignites and grows into a flame. For Jan and Dick, that spark ignited in 1958 at North Phoenix High School, and over six decades later, their love story continues to inspire. We are honored to share their relationship, offering wisdom and advice for those seeking the key to a lasting marriage.
The First Spark
Their story began at North Phoenix High in 1958. When asked what they love most about each other, the answers reveal a deep admiration and respect for one another. Dick spoke of Jan’s caring and giving spirit, and her beauty, both inwardly and outwardly. Jan reciprocated, highlighting Dick’s compassion, his willingness to listen and help, and his wonderful sense of humor.
The Power of Decision & Listening
Marriage, they say, is a journey of learning and growth. The most important lesson marriage has taught them? Love is a decision. It’s not just a feeling, but a conscious choice to commit and nurture the relationship. Crucially, they emphasized the importance of truly listening to each other, without interruption or judgment.
Pride, Blessings & the Key to Longevity
Jan and Dick are proud of the life they’ve built together, from their rewarding professional careers to their involvement in Marriage Encounter and their travels to 20 countries. They are especially proud of their children and their positive impact on the world. They also take pride in their volunteer work, giving back for all the blessings they’ve received. When asked about the key to their lasting marriage, they reiterated the importance of listening and showing love every single day.
Cherished Memories & Future Dreams
When asked what their favorite memories are, they spoke of their wedding day, the birth of their kids and grandkids, and the Marriage Encounter program. Their life together is filled with cherished memories from their rewarding professional careers and travel experiences. As for when they knew they were in love with each other, Dick said he was immediately in love with her, and emotionally, in love within their first year of dating. For Jan, she fell in love with Dick about a year after they met.
Looking to the future, they expressed an interest in continuing their involvement in the vast physical, intellectual, and social programs offered at Robson Reserve at PebbleCreek, where they have lived for the last couple of years. This desire to learn and grow together speaks volumes about their commitment to each other and their zest for life.
Jan and Dick’s story is a beautiful reminder that love, commitment, and active listening are the cornerstones of a lasting marriage. The Robson Reserve at PebbleCreek team is honored to feature this amazing couple and to be a part of their love story every day. It’s truly heartwarming to see how much they mean to each other!
